Spring awakening over the rooftops of Vienna!

The Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel Launches the 2026 Prater Season with a Technological World First.

When Vienna’s Prater amusement park traditionally opens its gates for the new season on March 15, the city’s iconic landmark will shine in new sparkle – and not only on the surface. In addition to visual and technical modernizations, the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel is setting new standards in hygiene and passenger comfort with a revolutionary ECARF-certified glass coating.

Just in time for the start of the season, the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel presents itself as safer and better maintained than ever before. In recent weeks, extensive modernization measures have been carried out behind the scenes to provide guests from around the world with a first-class experience. In addition to technical maintenance work on the wagon suspension systems, all wagons have been refurbished externally, cable spokes and cable locks renewed, and the interiors fitted with high-quality new flooring.

A World First Inside the wagons: The AIR2LIFE Revolution

The most significant innovation this season remains almost invisible to the naked eye, yet it is crucial for guests’ well-being: all wagon interiors have been enhanced with a state-of-the-art, ECARF-certified glass coating by AIR2LIFE.

This innovative technology makes the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel a pioneer in the tourism industry. The coating proactively combats pollutants, allergens, and germs on surfaces, creating a noticeably healthier indoor climate during the ride. Especially for people with allergies, the certification by the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) offers a new level of safety.

“Our ambition is to combine tradition with cutting-edge innovation. With the AIR2LIFE coating, we are offering our guests not only the best panoramic view over Vienna, but also a standard of hygiene and health that is unparalleled internationally,” said the management of the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel – Dr. Dorothea, Nora, and Tessa Lamac.

Modernization with Attention to Detail

In addition to the technological upgrade, great emphasis was placed on aesthetics. The new flooring in the wagons enhances the elegant ambiance of the historic wagons of the world’s oldest Ferris wheel, while the refreshed exterior facades, suspension systems, renewed cable spokes, and cable locks ensure that the landmark shines in the spring sunlight and meets the highest technical standards.
